The weld shop, constructed in the late 1800s was vacated this year as operations were relocated to a more central location. The old welding shop is 100 feet high, 75 feet wide and 300 to 400 feet long.
When the weld shop closed, workers were "crammed into a tight space" at a smaller welding shop at the mill, . They did not lose their jobs, but working conditions are not as good. At one time, the old shop did all the welding for the mill.
The mill is still in operation, as luck and timing were on my side. Besides the employees and demo crew, only a handfull of citizens got the oppurtunity to see the interior.
